I LOOK AHEAD. I PLAY DOWN THE FIELD. Although I live in the present moment and I delight in every day, I have a perfect understanding of where I want and need to be tomorrow. I make the most of every day, and I know I will make the most of tomorrow as well.
Welcome to Day 5 of my MasterMind Session. I believe one of the most common questions I hear from people is… “How do you stay so positive all the time?” The answer for me is being so grateful for the individual moments I am given “gifted” and that fact I have the free will to choose how I spend them. Now don’t get me wrong, I certainly have had my share of moments that I did not use as wisely as I could have. However, as I entered this 5th day of my mastermind session, and I was so fortunate to be able to share some incredibly inspiring moments with several new friends, I wondered to myself… just how many moments do we actually get in this life. So, I did a little research and broke out the calculator and discovered that the average person in America has 21 million moments within their adult lifetime where they get to choose the direction, the attitude, the impact of their lives from that moment on.
As for me… and I guess this is where I figure we all should choose wisely… because I personally have used up over 12 million of my moments and I think I would really like to use the rest I have coming to me in the most positive, productive, compassionate and loving way I possibly can… every day… moment by moment!
There is a delicate balance between living a rich and full day today while planning for tomorrow. Many times we get so caught up in what we need to do today that we fail to plan for tomorrow. Conversely, many times, we look so much to the future that we do not appreciate today. How do we strike a harmonious balance between these two need? One effective way is to properly organize, prioritize and plan our time and activities. When you properly plan, without fail you will have enough time to truly enjoy today. Good organizational skills allow you to “play down the field.” This means you can plan today for the obstacles you may encounter in the future or, even better, you can create your own circumstances of the future. Another method used by my mentor and mastermind partner John Alexandrov in keeping this level of balance is “dreaming”. as John stated within his book, he keeps a current dream list in his planner at all times. Writing down his dreams, and then visualizing them as reality, which motivates him to realize his dreams in the future while enjoying them today. One of John’s favortie quotes that has help him is… “Live for today. Plan for tomorrow.”
I certainly believe John’s process can and will work for most everyone. As for my personal process of staying in balance, I created a little 10 question survey that allows me to see exactly where I am at, at all times, based upon my gut feeling of where I am in relation to these ten areas of life.
